Rainy Days Don’t Mean No Play!
Posted: 03/15/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »April showers bring May flowers, but for now, you and your dog may find yourselves stuck inside during those rainy Spring days! Here are some fun ideas for activities and games to keep your dog (and yourself) occupied and active!
Embrace the rain! Don’t let a rainy day get you down.  Slap a rain jacket on you and your dog and head outside, for some wet, warm fun!- Ride bikes with your dog! In the right attire, a rainy day shouldn’t stop you and your pets from enjoying the outdoors! With a helmet, and maybe some rain shoes for your dog, nothing can stop you.
- Teach your dog a trick. A rainy day might give you the time and patience to teach your dog a new trick.  If you’d rather just spend the day playing with your dog while also helping them develop, try a game of hide-and-go-seek.  To play this game, hide treats in the house or yard and let your dog find them.
- Bake dog treats. Sometimes, some good home cooking is in order. Â On this rainy day, treat your dog to tasty peanut butter dog treats. For even more taste and more nutrients, add some of our yummy dog beverage, which not only tastes great, but also ensures that your dog steers clear from canine dehydration.
Use the Snowy, Cold Weather To Your Dog’s Advantage!
Posted: 02/23/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Just because it’s cold and snowy outside during this winter season does not mean that you and your dog should stay holed up inside! Take advantage of the fun and beautiful snow while you still can!
Dogs are known to really love running around in the white powder, however, according to vets around the world, dogs’ fur coats does not necessarily protect them from the cold. According to K9 Magazine, despite their fur coats, they are not immune to the cold weather and can easily develop hypothermia and frostbite.
Nonetheless, you and your pup can enjoy the white stuff, as long as you’re safe and stay warm!
Playing hide-and-seek with a toy or item of clothing can be a tracking challenge for your dog. In winter, a fun game is to place a glove (with a treat inside for extra enticement) just under the surface of the snow.
Frisbee and other forms of catch are also fun activities for you and your dog. Watch how fast your dog can run in the snow!
After you come in from playing, to warm up and rest, while you’re drinking your hot cocoa, feed your dog some dogdration, the tasty dog beverage that keeps away canine dehydration!
Caring For Sick Pets: When Your Dog Is Diagnosed With Cancer
Posted: 01/18/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
As a pet owner, it is your duty to care for your pet when he or she comes down with an illness. Cancer, however, is a little more difficult to deal with.
The amount of care and companionship that your dog needs may increase, and becomes more important if the disease is terminal in nature. Cancer in dogs is one such disease where detection unfortunately happens in the later stages, rendering treatment almost immaterial and useless. In such cases, love, care and comfort are the three things that you can provide for your dying dog.
Even though there are numerous kinds of cancer and each can affect different parts of the dog’s body, the basic fundamentals of care for cancer in dogs remains the same. The basic idea is to make the dog’s life as comfortable as possible.
One dog blog, Caring for Cancer in Dogs, provides some fundamental ways to caring for your sick dog:
Pain Management— The target of pain management should be to try and prevent pain from occurring, rather than treating it with strong painkillers once the pain has started.  In cases of localized pain, a local anesthesia can be used.
Avoid Dehydration— Certain types of cancers produce nausea and vomiting. Your main goal should be to reduce vomiting and the consequent risk of canine dehydration. Your dog may not feel up to eating or drinking much, but try an alternative to tap water: dogdration, the premium peanut butter flavored dog beverage, that hydrates your dog and provides him or her with important nutrients and electrolytes, which may put your pet in a better mood.
Diet— Your dog’s diet is the most important aspect of cancer care. It is a good idea to monitor diet closely if you have chosen chemotherapy as the treatment for your pet, because a good diet improves the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs.
Nauseated dogs are liable to refuse to eat. Try some appetite-enhancing remedies and feed him warm food in a stress-free environment. Ask your veterinarian about Omega 3 fatty acids, digestible proteins and supplemental amino acids.
New Years Resolutions For You and Your Dog, by dog trainer Jodi Anderson
Posted: 01/5/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »Jodi Anderson shares on her dog blog five ways to make 2011 a better year for you — and your dog.
Those of us lucky enough to live with dogs already know that life just doesn’t get any better.  But sobering headlines about animal abandonment and abuse serve as reminders that there is always room in our hearts — and in our lives — for improvement. So why not let the approaching New Year serve as the perfect time to let at least one of your resolutions go to the dogs?  Here are a few places to start:
1. Personal training: Before you write another big check to the gym, consider — instead — taking a long, daily aerobic walk with your dog. Dogs make wonderful personal trainers and usually have the stamina to push you to go the distance. If your routine already includes one dog walk, add another. Your dog’s behavior — and your waistline — will benefit. Furthermore, make sure that you avoid canine dehydration by ensuring that you have a tasty dog beverage like dogdration with you at all times.
2. Volunteer at a local shelter: Whether you plan to spend one hour a week or several, volunteering at a dog shelter will change your life. Every moment spent making a dog’s life better will improve your own tenfold. If you’re not up for the physical challenge or time constraints prevent you from showing up in person, consider sponsoring a shelter dog or lobbying for one of the many worldwide canine causes. Check aspca.org for local as well as global options.

Three Tips To Keeping Your Dog Calm, Cool, Collected and Hydrated!
Posted: 08/5/10 8:44 PM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »- As a dog-owner, you’re probably well aware that during daily exercise, your dog does not sweat, but instead pants. This is his only way to keep himself cool, but during this process he loses a lot of water.
That’s why it’s very important to keep your dog hydrated, especially in the heat of a month like August! If your dog loses too much water, he’s at risk for canine dehydration, which is a serious health issue, and unfortunately a common one.
Follow these simple tips and you will easily be ensuring your dog’s hydration.
- Keep a clean and fresh bowl of water in your home and make sure that it’s always available and accessible for your dog.
- Carry a bottle of water and a bowl (one that is easily transported) with you on daily walks with your dog. If you notice your dog excessively panting, take a break and crack out that water! He will really appreciate it.
- Consider the quality of the water you’re feeding your dog. The water should not only be visibly clean, but should also be free of impurities. Added vitamins couldn’t hurt either! If you notice that your dog is not too fond of your home’s tap water, don’t ignore that! Ensure his hydration by providing him with a liquid like dogdration, that is not only tasty, but healthy as well!

The Importance of Water in Your Dog’s Diet, To Ensure Their Health
Posted: 07/25/10 1:22 AM | Filed Under: Blog | 1 Comment »
Canine dehydration can cause your dog to be stricken with serious illness and health issues. That’s why it’s important to know the symptoms and preventative steps to take with dehydration.
Water cools the body and carries necessary nutrients to the cells.  Generally a dog needs at least one ounce of water for each pound of body weight per day but environmental factors, level of activity, and health condition can drive this need up much higher. With almost three-fourths of a dog’s body weight attributed to water, as little as a fifteen percent loss can cause death.
Dogs become dehydrated by panting so much, due to heat or overexertion, that they lose a great deal of fluid.
Some symptoms of dehydration include:
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Sunken, dry eyes
- Dry mouth tissues
- Increased heart rate
- Slow capillary refill time (color should return to gums immediately after pressure is applied)
- Loss of skin elasticity (in the skin turgor test, skin on the back should return immediately to normal position when pulled up and released)
What to do:
- Place the dog in a cool area.
- Give small amounts of cool water every few minutes.
- Rush the dog to a veterinarian if symptoms are pronounced. By the time symptoms appear, dehydration can be serious and may need to be treated with subcutaneous or intravenous fluids and other medical intervention.
Despite its health benefits, plain water usually receives little fanfare from dogs, however. Â While dogs may work up a thirst fairly easily, they are never too excited to drink from a dirty water bowl. Â And sometimes, dogs even reject tap water, as the taste is bland to them. In this case, a flavored dog beverage would do just the trick! dogdration is a peanut-butter flavored pet drink that includes glucosamine, for hip and joint health, as well as added electrolytes, to keep your dog hydrated and energetic. Beware Of These Common Household Substances That Could Harm, Or Even Kill, Your Dog
Posted: 07/8/10 4:37 PM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Dogs are natural scavengers. They love to get into things, to find things in unusual places.
However, their innocent scavenging could lead to some serious, even fatal, harm.
Here is a list of products, foods and other common household substances that should be kept out of your dog’s reach no matter what. Â Accidents can be avoided if you follow the dog health tips of this blog and of your vet.
- Chocolate – As most everyone knows, chocolate is bad for dogs. It contains a substance called obromine which is toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are especially harmful to dogs if ingested.
- Antifreeze kills many pets each year. Â Ethylene glycol in common antifreeze is toxic. Symptoms of toxicity include seizures, vomiting, stumbling and lethargy, leading to kidney failure and canine dehydration. Unfortunately, the product tastes very sweet to your dog, so it will be very appealing to him. Â This is why it is important to make sure to keep your antifreeze far out of your dog’s reach.
- Bleach is obviously very toxic for dogs and humans alike, so keep this substance far from your pup’s paws. Â Symptoms of bleach poisoning include drooling, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
- Tylenol It may be surprising, and even scary, but as little as two regular strength Tylenol tablets can kill a small dog. This is because dogs lack the proper liver enzymes to break down acetaminophen. Don’t leave an open bottle of Tylenol laying around!
- Watch Batteries If your dog ingests a watch battery, it can cause a potentially fatal ulceration in the stomach within 12 hours. All other alkaline batteries are toxic to dogs as well.
Call your dog’s veterinarian if you suspect that your pet has ingested any of these common household substances.
To keep your dog busy with his own treats, buy dogdration online today! He’ll be too enthralled to scavenge for anything he’s not supposed to get in to!

Tips For Exercising With Your Dog
Posted: 06/29/10 2:42 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
All —or at least most— dogs love exercising. Their tails wag and their ears perk up when they hear that special word—WALK.
But just like humans, pets need to prepare for their work-outs. Follow these dog health tips, however, and your dog will do just fine.
- Pets should start an exercise program slowly, building up to the level or duration of exercise that they can handle.
- If puppies are given proper nutrition— healthy treats, food and plenty of water— and an opportunity for plenty of rest, they’ll be full of play. As they grow older, outgrowing this playful period, it then becomes the responsibility of the owner to see that they get plenty of quality exercise on a regular basis.
- Walking is great exercise for you and your pet and can be as long and a strenuous as the two of you want. What’s important is that it becomes a routine that the walks are done on a regular basis. Once or more a day is the ideal for a regular walk schedule, but if this is not possible, then try to walk your pooch at least a few times a week. If you are tired of walking and your dog still wants to continue then a game of fetch can finish out the program for the day.
- Avoid canine dehydration by providing your dog with plenty of clean water, or even some dogdration.
- Feed your dog healthy treats, with no excessive fat or grease, to keep your pups healthy and energetic.
DOs and DON’Ts
DO:
- warm up your pet before taking on any exercise
- have dogdration or water available for you pooch
- make the exercise a routine for your dog
DON’T:
- overwork your dog
- exercise your dog outdoors on extremely hot or extremely cold days
- don’t feed your dog immediately after or immediately before exercising your dog

Most importantly, dogdration is a premium dog beverage made right here in the United States, bottled and manufactured in Santa Cruz county, California.
Dogs are always at risk for canine dehydration, so it is important to keep your dog hydrated and healthy. Â Dehydration in dogs is a condition that occurs when the water in the dog’s body is less than normal.
Water makes up more than 90 percent of a dog’s weight. A 10 percent loss of fluid in the body can cause the dog to be extremely ill from dehydration.
A dog is dehydrated when she loses both water and the minerals in the water (electrolytes), such as sodium, chloride and potassium.
Dehydration occurs either because there is a lack of water intake to replenish fluid loss due to panting and urinating, or because there is an increase in water loss due to illness or injury.
If your dog is uninterested in tap water, then try dogdration, to ensure that your dog stays healthy and hydrated. Â Your pup will probably not be able to resist the beverage’s tasty peanut flavor. Â That’s why dogdration is the ultimate canine quencher.

Alleviate Canine Dehydration
Posted: 05/14/10 9:32 PM | Filed Under: Blog | 1 Comment »According to VetInfo, dog dehydration results from an excessive loss of body fluids due to exposure to extreme heat, illness, or not drinking enough water. Â It involves not only the loss of water, but also the loss of minerals and electrolytes in a dog’s body.
Some side effects to dog dehydration are:
Sunken and dry eyes- Heavy panting
- Vomiting
- Depression
- Lethargic behavior
- Diarrhea
- Increased heart rate
- Dry gums, mouth and nose
- Loss of appetite
- Excessive drooling
Canine dehydration is a very serious, and common, condition. Â However, it can easily be avoided. Â If you notice that your dog has any of the above symptoms, take the following precautions:
- Provide your dog with clean, good-tasting water in a clean bowl. Â If they are used to tasting bad water, or seeing things floating in their water, they may be less likely to drink from their water bowl. Â Be sure to rinse out your dog’s water bowl every few days, or at least once a week, to keep his water clean and healthy.
- If you notice that your dog is not drinking the tap water in his bowl, try flavored water, like dogdration. This canine beverage will keep your dog hydrated, while providing him with necessary vitamins and electrolytes, which also work to prevent dehydration.
- Offer your dog canned, wet food, or pour dogdration over your dog’s dry food, This measure will hydrate your dog by increasing his water intake.
After these simple measures, your dog should be completely relieved of any canine dehydration symptoms.
To ensure that your dog stays hydrated, order dogdration online today.

If you and your family are packing up the car and going on a vacation— whether it be to visit family, to show your pup at a pet show, or just for a short get away— bring along some dogdration!
This premium water for dogs comes in conveniently packaged bottles, which can be whipped out at any instance.
Especially during these coming summer months, the car can quickly become pretty hot. Â Your vehicle acts as a sort of green house, that traps in heat, making the inside of your car much hotter than it actually is outside.
According to a study done by the Animal Protection Institute, a car exposed to sunlight, in 82 degree weather, can overheat to become 109 degrees on the interior! Â Temperatures this hot can be deadly for dogs. Â To prevent your dog from overheating or becoming hydrated:
- Keep your dog hydrated. Â Pack bottles of dogdration in your car and regularly give the water to your dogs.
Turn on the air conditioning, or at least crack a window, to control temperatures in your automobile.- NEVER leave your dog in your car during a sunny day. Â Your pet may become overheated, and the situation may end tragically. Â Every year, there are countless cases reported in which owners have left their dogs in their cars to run errands, shop, or go to work, and come back to find their dogs dead. Â Do not make this same mistake.
So to keep your dog hydrated, and to avoid overheating, be sure to provide him with water throughout your entire trip. Â Even in just a short car trip, your dog can start panting and lose a lot of liquid.
Not only does dogdration keep your dog hydrated, but with its tasty peanut butter flavor, your dog will sincerely appreciate the treat, which can substitute your other, more expensive dog treats. Â In addition, this k9 quencher is healthy for your pet! Â It’s a win-win situation!
To keep your dog hydrated and healthy, order a case of dogdration today!
