Tips to Traveling With Your Pooch This Spring Break
Posted: 03/21/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Making the decision to travel with your dog can be overwhelming at first. With Spring Break just around the corner, your instinct may be to call the dog sitter, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be.Due to the increase of people traveling with their pets, many airlines and hotels have become more pet-friendly by using hardwood floors instead of carpet and other small differences. Refer to the New York Daily News’ article, “How to sniff out bargains before you travel with your dog” for some helpful tips on how to save on your vacation.
If you’ve decided to bring your dog on Spring Break, or on your summer vacation, here are three important tips for traveling together.
- Go to your vet: Before going on a trip, it’s a good idea to make it to the vet to make sure everything is going well with your pet’s health. Get all of the petmeds, check-ups, vaccines or sedatives that you’ll need for your dog for the duration of your stay.
- ID your dog: Whether you choose to use a microchip or just a collar with your name, address and phone number; be sure that your dog has proper identification.
- Take frequent breaks: Not only is this good for bathroom breaks, but dogs need to stretch their legs just as much as you do. This is essential if you’re traveling in hot weather. Take frequent breaks to make sure that your dog is staying hydrated. To ensure this, take along some dogdration, which doubles as a dog beverage, and as tasty, healthy treats!
Rainy Days Don’t Mean No Play!
Posted: 03/15/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »April showers bring May flowers, but for now, you and your dog may find yourselves stuck inside during those rainy Spring days! Here are some fun ideas for activities and games to keep your dog (and yourself) occupied and active!
Embrace the rain! Don’t let a rainy day get you down.  Slap a rain jacket on you and your dog and head outside, for some wet, warm fun!- Ride bikes with your dog! In the right attire, a rainy day shouldn’t stop you and your pets from enjoying the outdoors! With a helmet, and maybe some rain shoes for your dog, nothing can stop you.
- Teach your dog a trick. A rainy day might give you the time and patience to teach your dog a new trick.  If you’d rather just spend the day playing with your dog while also helping them develop, try a game of hide-and-go-seek.  To play this game, hide treats in the house or yard and let your dog find them.
- Bake dog treats. Sometimes, some good home cooking is in order. Â On this rainy day, treat your dog to tasty peanut butter dog treats. For even more taste and more nutrients, add some of our yummy dog beverage, which not only tastes great, but also ensures that your dog steers clear from canine dehydration.
Use the Snowy, Cold Weather To Your Dog’s Advantage!
Posted: 02/23/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Just because it’s cold and snowy outside during this winter season does not mean that you and your dog should stay holed up inside! Take advantage of the fun and beautiful snow while you still can!
Dogs are known to really love running around in the white powder, however, according to vets around the world, dogs’ fur coats does not necessarily protect them from the cold. According to K9 Magazine, despite their fur coats, they are not immune to the cold weather and can easily develop hypothermia and frostbite.
Nonetheless, you and your pup can enjoy the white stuff, as long as you’re safe and stay warm!
Playing hide-and-seek with a toy or item of clothing can be a tracking challenge for your dog. In winter, a fun game is to place a glove (with a treat inside for extra enticement) just under the surface of the snow.
Frisbee and other forms of catch are also fun activities for you and your dog. Watch how fast your dog can run in the snow!
After you come in from playing, to warm up and rest, while you’re drinking your hot cocoa, feed your dog some dogdration, the tasty dog beverage that keeps away canine dehydration!

It is important for dog owners to know that hairs are actually proteins. Thus, in order to keep your dog’s coat healthy, it is important to ensure that he or she is receiving a sufficient amount of protein in their daily diet.

Regular brushing will also help to reduce any shedding problems your dog may have.
- Lastly, exercise is a must for all dogs, as it stimulates blood and oxygen flow. To quench your dog’s thirst after their workout, give them some dogdration! They’ll be sure to gulp it down, and hydrate themselves.
Caring For Sick Pets: When Your Dog Is Diagnosed With Cancer
Posted: 01/18/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
As a pet owner, it is your duty to care for your pet when he or she comes down with an illness. Cancer, however, is a little more difficult to deal with.
The amount of care and companionship that your dog needs may increase, and becomes more important if the disease is terminal in nature. Cancer in dogs is one such disease where detection unfortunately happens in the later stages, rendering treatment almost immaterial and useless. In such cases, love, care and comfort are the three things that you can provide for your dying dog.
Even though there are numerous kinds of cancer and each can affect different parts of the dog’s body, the basic fundamentals of care for cancer in dogs remains the same. The basic idea is to make the dog’s life as comfortable as possible.
One dog blog, Caring for Cancer in Dogs, provides some fundamental ways to caring for your sick dog:
Pain Management— The target of pain management should be to try and prevent pain from occurring, rather than treating it with strong painkillers once the pain has started.  In cases of localized pain, a local anesthesia can be used.
Avoid Dehydration— Certain types of cancers produce nausea and vomiting. Your main goal should be to reduce vomiting and the consequent risk of canine dehydration. Your dog may not feel up to eating or drinking much, but try an alternative to tap water: dogdration, the premium peanut butter flavored dog beverage, that hydrates your dog and provides him or her with important nutrients and electrolytes, which may put your pet in a better mood.
Diet— Your dog’s diet is the most important aspect of cancer care. It is a good idea to monitor diet closely if you have chosen chemotherapy as the treatment for your pet, because a good diet improves the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs.
Nauseated dogs are liable to refuse to eat. Try some appetite-enhancing remedies and feed him warm food in a stress-free environment. Ask your veterinarian about Omega 3 fatty acids, digestible proteins and supplemental amino acids.
Your Dog’s New Year’s Resolution
Posted: 01/12/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Keep these things in mind when you and your favorite canine are thinking of potential New Year’s resolutions for the 2011 New Year.
The New Year is a time for making resolutions, things that you want to change to make the year a brighter one. New Year’s resolutions do not only have to be for you, they could also stretch towards your pets.
Wouldn’t it be nice to make a resolution so that your dog could have a better life?
Creating a New Years Resolution for Your Dog:
If you are thinking of making a New Year’s resolution for your dog, you may be wondering what to start with. For many dog owners, the main thing that they would like to change for their dog is how active they are. A lot of dogs gain weight through no fault of their own and their owners up until now, have not given them the appropriate exercise that they need in order to stay healthy. So, one New Year’s resolution could include taking the dog on more walks.
Another thing that is extremely important is your dog’s diet. Many dog owners feed their dogs a variety of fatty foods that are unhealthy for them. Fatty treats and low quality foods are detrimental to any dog’s health. So, another New Year’s resolution that you should take on board is feeding your dog a healthier diet including premium pet food and treats for dogs.
Start you and your dog off with something simple and wholesome—dogdration, the tasty dog beverage that prevents canine dehydration, and enhances your dog’s strength, endurance and overall health!
New Year’s Resolutions Continued
Posted: 01/7/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
New-York based dog trainer Jodi Anderson shares on her dog blog her top five new year’s resolutions for both pet and pet owner:
3. Canine emergency kit: Put together a small backpack for your dog that contains important contact information, as well as a few doses of any essential medication in the event of an emergency. Discuss a contingency plan with a friend, family member, and/or a neighbor, in the event that you need them to unexpectedly care for your dog. Make sure your dog’s I.D. tags are current. Listing your cell phone number as the contact will help your dog get back to you safely and swiftly, no matter where you are.
4. Discover that inner talent: Take the time to notice what your dog is good at.  If he/she spends more time jumping out of your yard and into your neighbor’s, he might win a blue ribbon in an agility competition. If his focus on a ball borders on the compulsive, search and rescue could be his forte. Or, if he’s a social butterfly who would do anything to sit on someone’s lap, you might just have a therapy dog on your hands. If you’re not sure what your dog might be good at, try looking at him/her through the eyes of a canine talent scout. You might just gain a whole new appreciation for his/her particularly quirky behaviors.
5. Time is better than money: Promise yourself that you will try to arrive home at least 30 minutes earlier than is customary and spend it with your dog. No matter what your paycheck says, a little more quality time with your best friend is priceless.
There are of course countless more ways to pay homage to a species that has for centuries steadfastly served us by day and slept lovingly at our feet by night; these are just a few of mine. Regardless of which resolution(s) you ultimately choose, have a happy and healthy new year. And as each of us contemplates how we might do our own part to help make the world a better place, remember that small gestures — even those that go to the dogs — can make a big difference.
To make your new year even happier and healthier, consider purchasing the tasty dog beverage, dogdration, for your pet today!
New Years Resolutions For You and Your Dog, by dog trainer Jodi Anderson
Posted: 01/5/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »Jodi Anderson shares on her dog blog five ways to make 2011 a better year for you — and your dog.
Those of us lucky enough to live with dogs already know that life just doesn’t get any better.  But sobering headlines about animal abandonment and abuse serve as reminders that there is always room in our hearts — and in our lives — for improvement. So why not let the approaching New Year serve as the perfect time to let at least one of your resolutions go to the dogs?  Here are a few places to start:
1. Personal training: Before you write another big check to the gym, consider — instead — taking a long, daily aerobic walk with your dog. Dogs make wonderful personal trainers and usually have the stamina to push you to go the distance. If your routine already includes one dog walk, add another. Your dog’s behavior — and your waistline — will benefit. Furthermore, make sure that you avoid canine dehydration by ensuring that you have a tasty dog beverage like dogdration with you at all times.
2. Volunteer at a local shelter: Whether you plan to spend one hour a week or several, volunteering at a dog shelter will change your life. Every moment spent making a dog’s life better will improve your own tenfold. If you’re not up for the physical challenge or time constraints prevent you from showing up in person, consider sponsoring a shelter dog or lobbying for one of the many worldwide canine causes. Check aspca.org for local as well as global options.

Dog + Hydration = dogdration!

Some folks might think that the idea of hydrating your dog is ridiculous. Really? Water for dogs?Â
We understand that it may sound silly, but here’s why it’s not:
- Thirst is sometimes mistaken for hunger
- Mild dehydration slows down metabolism
- Lack of hydration is a trigger for fatigue
- Lack of hydration is a trigger for joint pain
- Hydrating more decreases chances of cancer
- Hydrating more decreases chances of disease
- Hydrating more rids the body of toxins
- Hydration prevents bladder infections
- Helps to maintain correct body temperature
You’ve probably heard that most mammals can go weeks without food, but only days without water – water is truly that important!
The great thing about dogdration is that it is water with some other stuff. The other stuff is 100% natural with no preservatives or animal by-products. It’s enhanced with vitamins and minerals – so all of a sudden in one beverage you’ve got water plus the stuff your pup needs anyway! What’s more is that your dog will be more attracted to it than water because it’s flavored with all natural allergen free peanut butter.
So whether you are concerned about your pup’s hydration or not, it’s a good idea to stock up on some dogdration. And with our 8-pack dog beverage that’s on special for just $20 bucks, there’s no reason not to!

In the health article, Caring for Your Dog in the Summer Heat, Dogster offers the following tips to keep your dog cool and hydrated:
Avoid canine dehydration by providing your dog with large amounts of cool, clean water, or dog beverages like dogdration.- Under the summer sun, asphalt on sidewalks and streets can heat to a temperature which can burn a dog’s paws. To avoid scorched paws, walk your dog very early in the morning or in the late evening when the streets have cooled off. If you must walk your dog during the day, dog booties can protect his feet.
- Summer is the season for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Feeding your dog a high quality diet, without preservatives, chemicals, or large amounts of unnecessary grains will build his immune system, making him generally more resistant to parasite infestation.
- Prevent heat stroke by restricting his exercise during the hottest hours of the day (early morning or late evening are the best times for exercise during the summer), by making sure he is well hydrated, providing air conditioned places for him to relax, providing opportunities to swim, cooling mats, and by never leaving your dog unattended in the car during summer heat.

There exist five types of allergies that a dog can have, including , food allergies, contact allergies, flea allergies, bacterial allergies, and inhalant allergies.
food allergies:
Your dog’s food could be making him or her sick. Though many food allergies are gastro-intestinal–resulting in diarrhea and vomiting– approximately 10 to 15% of all allergic skin diseases in dogs are caused by food allergies.
Some common food culprits for dog food allergies include
- corn
- wheat
- soy
- dairy
- beef and lamb
If you see that your dog is having some of these symptoms from a food allergy, change their food and go for one with a high quality meat source as a primary ingredient. Look for one without corn or wheat and feed them the new food for two or three weeks and see if your pet improves.
If your pup doesn’t like the taste of his new food, try pouring some dog beverage, like dogdration, over it, to make it tastier to your pet, and healthier too!
The Importance of Water in Your Dog’s Diet, To Ensure Their Health

Canine dehydration can cause your dog to be stricken with serious illness and health issues. That’s why it’s important to know the symptoms and preventative steps to take with dehydration.
Water cools the body and carries necessary nutrients to the cells.  Generally a dog needs at least one ounce of water for each pound of body weight per day but environmental factors, level of activity, and health condition can drive this need up much higher. With almost three-fourths of a dog’s body weight attributed to water, as little as a fifteen percent loss can cause death.
Dogs become dehydrated by panting so much, due to heat or overexertion, that they lose a great deal of fluid.
Some symptoms of dehydration include:
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Sunken, dry eyes
- Dry mouth tissues
- Increased heart rate
- Slow capillary refill time (color should return to gums immediately after pressure is applied)
- Loss of skin elasticity (in the skin turgor test, skin on the back should return immediately to normal position when pulled up and released)
What to do:
- Place the dog in a cool area.
- Give small amounts of cool water every few minutes.
- Rush the dog to a veterinarian if symptoms are pronounced. By the time symptoms appear, dehydration can be serious and may need to be treated with subcutaneous or intravenous fluids and other medical intervention.
Despite its health benefits, plain water usually receives little fanfare from dogs, however. Â While dogs may work up a thirst fairly easily, they are never too excited to drink from a dirty water bowl. Â And sometimes, dogs even reject tap water, as the taste is bland to them. In this case, a flavored dog beverage would do just the trick! dogdration is a peanut-butter flavored pet drink that includes glucosamine, for hip and joint health, as well as added electrolytes, to keep your dog hydrated and energetic. The American Kennel Club and ADT Security Services joined forces once again for the third annual National Pet Fire Safety Day to spread awareness about how pets can start home fires, but more importantly how to prevent them.
“Simple preventative measures, such as flameless candles and stove knob covers, can mean the difference between life and death for your four-legged friends,” AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson said.
