A Kid’s Guide To Loving and Caring For Your Dog

Posted: 01/24/11 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »

The dog blog How to Love Your Dog, is all about how to treat your dog with the love and attention that he or she deserves. The site also gives you tips on how to teach your child to treat your dog!
Owning a dog can be a wonderful experience for a child. A properly selected and socialized dog can provide unconditional love, companionship and fun, while teaching your child valuable lessons about compassion, responsibility and commitment.
Teaching your children the fundamentals of good dog care–and allowing them to assume more responsibility for the dog’s welfare as they grows–increases the odds that dog ownership will be safe, satisfying and enjoyable for canine and humans alike.
Here are some simple steps to teaching your children the importance of dog care!
  1. Teach your children the necessity of giving the dog its food and fresh water every day.
  2. Provide a box of dog biscuits or healthy treats your child can give to the dog as rewards for obeying commands, while stressing the importance of not giving too many.
  3. Inform your child about the dangers of giving foods that are unhealthy and even dangerous.
  4. Demonstrate the proper way to pet a dog.
  5. Teach the dog basic obedience commands, such as “heel,” “stay,” “come,” and observe the dog and child together to ensure that the dog respects the child’s authority and obeys the commands.
  6. Accompany children younger than10 years old when they walk the dog, even if the dog is small and well-trained.
  7. Teach your child how to use the “heel” command with the dog, and demonstrate the amount of pull you can use on the leash without hurting the dog.
  8. Praise your child when he consistently feeds the dog or performs other chores related to its care.

How To Teach An Old Dog New Tricks

Posted: 09/15/10 3:15 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »

If your canine is not behaving like he should, and you want to see improvements in his conduct and behavior, follow these steps and see results immediately!

Is your dog…

  • chewing on shoes?
  • going to the bathroom in the house?
  • nipping at children?
  • digging up the backyard?
  • ignoring your “come” and “sit” commands?
  • barking incessantly?
  • jumping on guests and the furniture?

Then it sounds like your dog could use some obedience training. Here are some simple tips on how to control your dog’s bad behavior.

  • Spend more time with your dog. You’ll be amazed at how much quality time spent with your dog will affect his mood and behavior — in a positive way.
  • Reward and praise your dog for good performance. A tasty treat, like dogdration ice cube all natural dog treats, in your hand while training your pup will give him the incentive to follow your instructions! This will also help the two of you build an amiable friendship, while cultivating good habits in your dog!
  • Never punish or scold your dog while you’re training, because a punishment will make him think of negative things when you try and train him in the future.
  • Penalize your dog instead of punishing your dog.  A “penalty” can be anything that your dog does not like — a leash jerk, ignoring him, etc. This would make him feel guilty and behave properly.

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (avoid sodium heavy powders)
  • 1/4 cup dogdration
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (some dogs should not have garlic so omit until you check with your vet)
  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a second bowl, beat the 2 eggs, the milk, the broth, the dogdration, the oil and the garlic all together. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Let sit for 15 min.
