Your dog’s scavenging is not always harmless. Â Some common substances that are found in your house can actually harm or even kill your innocent pet. Â Be sure to keep those select few dangerous substances far from your dog’s reach.
Here is a continued list of household substances that can pose a threat to your dog’s health and happiness.
- Moth Balls are very toxic to dogs, due to all of the harmful chemicals in them. Â They contain an insecticide that causes central nervous system excitement and seizures. When metabolized, ingestion of moth balls can lead to liver failure. Symptoms of poisoning by moth balls include vomiting and seizures.
- Fabric softeners and other detergents are all toxic to dogs at one level or another, but fabric softeners fall into the highly toxic category. Signs of toxicity include vomiting, lethargy, burns to the mouth, drooling, muscle weakness, and even coma.
- Mouthwash is mildly toxic to humans, but very toxic to dogs. It can contain boric acid which is highly toxic to animals. Symptoms of poisoning by mouthwash include vomiting, drooling, seizures, and coma. You should take your dog to the veterinarian immediately if you suspect poisoning by mouthwash or other household item containing boric acid like contact lens solution or denture cleaner.
- Peach Pits are harmful to dogs, not only because they could choke on them, but also because with most fruits, the pits and the seeds are toxic to dogs.
- Household plants Many common and popular household plants are highly toxic to dogs. A partial list of toxic plants includes poinsettias, lilies, ferns, devil’s ivy, aloe, and ivy. Symptoms of poisoning due to ingestion of toxic plants include vomiting and central nervous system excitement. Many of these plants are fatal if ingested.

Be Careful With These Harmful Dog Treats
Posted: 07/6/10 6:38 PM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »Just because a company makes it for dogs doesn’t mean your dog should eat it.  Nowadays there is a huge selection of dog treats, dog biscuits and dog bones out there to choose from. But some of these treats are not only unhealthy, but some can actually harm—even kill— your beloved pet.
According to consumersavvytips.org, here are some treats for dogs to avoid:
Rawhides— a rawhide is the skin of a cow. But even scarier is the fact that the production of rawhides are not monitored in any way. There have been problems such as arsenic poisoning in rawhides, and traces of formaldehyde. You don’t want your dog ingesting these chemicals.
Rawhides can also cause intestinal blockage problems and can damage the inside of your dog’s intestines.
Pig ears and cow hooves— like rawhides, pig ears and cow hooves have also been known to cause intestinal blockage problems.  These problems may result in vomiting, diarrhea, irritation or blockage in your dog’s digestive system.
Greenies— these products have also been known to cause intestinal blockage problems. If your dog does not chew a Greenie properly, it can block the intestine, which may result in illness, or even death.  Greenies are a popular treat, and while only a few cases of death have been reported, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and avoid these treats altogether.
While it’s true that anything that your dog ingests could pose a potential threat, there are safer dog treats out there on the market. Simple, easy-to-digest and chew treats are a great alternative to the more dangerous dog treats.
Frozen dogdration ice cubes is a good example of easy-to-digest and healthy treats for dogs. Order the premium dog beverage online today!
Tips For Exercising With Your Dog
Posted: 06/29/10 2:42 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
All —or at least most— dogs love exercising. Their tails wag and their ears perk up when they hear that special word—WALK.
But just like humans, pets need to prepare for their work-outs. Follow these dog health tips, however, and your dog will do just fine.
- Pets should start an exercise program slowly, building up to the level or duration of exercise that they can handle.
- If puppies are given proper nutrition— healthy treats, food and plenty of water— and an opportunity for plenty of rest, they’ll be full of play. As they grow older, outgrowing this playful period, it then becomes the responsibility of the owner to see that they get plenty of quality exercise on a regular basis.
- Walking is great exercise for you and your pet and can be as long and a strenuous as the two of you want. What’s important is that it becomes a routine that the walks are done on a regular basis. Once or more a day is the ideal for a regular walk schedule, but if this is not possible, then try to walk your pooch at least a few times a week. If you are tired of walking and your dog still wants to continue then a game of fetch can finish out the program for the day.
- Avoid canine dehydration by providing your dog with plenty of clean water, or even some dogdration.
- Feed your dog healthy treats, with no excessive fat or grease, to keep your pups healthy and energetic.
DOs and DON’Ts
DO:
- warm up your pet before taking on any exercise
- have dogdration or water available for you pooch
- make the exercise a routine for your dog
DON’T:
- overwork your dog
- exercise your dog outdoors on extremely hot or extremely cold days
- don’t feed your dog immediately after or immediately before exercising your dog
Is Your Dog Still Bored?
Posted: 06/28/10 6:00 PM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
How can you keep your dog preoccupied and entertained while you’re gone all day, at work or running errands?
Many dog-owners run into this dilemma. But here are some simple solutions to subduing your dog’s boredom:
- The simplest and most effective solution to curbing your dog’s boredom is to get another dog. Try picking out an energetic, friendly dog that will get along well with your current dog. However, this solution is not a option for everyone, so try the following:
- Try buying some interactive dog toys for your pet to play with while you’re out. You can find some cheap dog toys, or go all out and find some electric dog toys that will baffle your pup! Some toys move on their own, which will keep your dog busy and entertained for at least a few hours. Or, try hiding healthy treats around the house for your dog to find while you’re out!
- As silly as it may sound, try turning on Animal Planet or some other animal show for your dog to watch while you’re out. Dogs are usually gullible enough to believe that the images on the TV are real, but who knows what goes through their minds while they’re watching! The only downside to this tip is that it does waste energy. But if you’re desperate, then give it a shot!
- If you’re not willing to add a new dog to the household, but you know that you’re pooch is still lonely, then ask around and see if any neighbors or friends are having the same problem. If so, then invite their dog to stay in your house or apartment, to keep your hound happy and occupied while you’re out. Make sure the dogs get along well first!
- If you live close to where you work, try going home for lunch or any long breaks to check up on your pooch. The short break in between the hours of loneliness will make the day go by way faster for your dog, who will greatly appreciate the visit!
When you get home from work, reward your dog for his patience with some dogdration!

5 Ways To Keep Your Dog From Boredom
Posted: 06/12/10 12:30 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »
Dogs can get pretty bored without their owners around all day to entertain them. Â But many dog owners work all day long, leaving their dogs home alone, to fend for themselves and dodge boredom on their own.
Here are some ideas that you can explore and try out, to keep your best friend entertained and happy.
- Consider a dog walker or a doggy day care. Many dogs appreciate a friendly visit and an energy-releasing walk from a hired dog walker, which adds some fun to their otherwise long and boring day. Â Dogs also usually enjoy doggy day cares, but these can become fairly expensive. Â Furthermore, doggy day cares should be looked into, as a parent would look into a child day care center.
- Consider getting another dog. A second dog in the home makes life way more fun for your dog. Â The two will keep each other busy throughout the day that you’re at work. However, adding another pooch to the family is a big commitment, and should be discussed and thought-through carefully.
- Keep plenty of treats in the house. Healthy treats make happy dogs, so be sure that you have a generous stock of dog biscuits at hand!
- Try rewarding your pet with treats for dogs, like dogdration, after you get home from a long day of work, to show your dog that her patience is appreciated!
- Exercise with your dog often. Regular walks, a few games of fetch and running around indoors and outdoors, are all good for you and your dog. Â Â Exercise has a calming and mood-stabilizing effect on your dog, so your pet is less likely to act out if he’s burned all his energy for the day. Â A few minutes of running around the house before you leave for work will make your dog less anxious and more composed throughout the lonely day.
What Are Healthy Treats For Dogs?
Posted: 06/11/10 12:28 AM | Filed Under: Blog | No Comments »Most of us know that dogs will eat almost anything, but that doesn’t mean that just about anything is necessarily healthy for them.
Here are some healthy treats and snacks to feed your dog when their regular food bores them!
- Apples

- Carrots
- Melon
- Beef (cooked)
- Hot Dogs
- Chicken (raw or cooked)
- Pumpkin
- Rice & Popcorn— These filling treats are great substitutes for dog biscuits high in fat and sodium.  These foods fill your pet, without adding unnecessary calories to their diet.
Also try feeding your pup small amounts of cheese and green beans, usually cooked.
Dogs also like frozen foods and ice, especially during these hot summer months. Â Frozen peas and frozen chunks of bananas are both popular, as well as frozen peanut butter treats for dogs! Try filling an ice tray with dogdration, which has a great peanut butter flavor, not to mention important vitamins, electrolytes, and glucosamine.
While there may be a lot of substitutes for your everyday dog biscuits, not every food is healthy for your dog. Â When looking through your kitchen, avoid the following foods, which can be harmful to your dog.
- Grapes
- Raisins
- Onions
- Large amounts of garlic
Dogs will eat almost anything, but there’s a lot you can do to make sure that whatever your dog eats, it’s healthy and good for him!
Is Your Dog Bored?

Boredom is an awful syndrome that some dogs can catch if owners don’t pay their dog enough attention! Â Most dogs react to and deal with boredom by misbehaving, which may include chewing up furniture or clothing, getting into human food, or going to the bathroom where they know they’re not supposed to go.
These actions are not only a dog’s responses to boredom, but also a message to their owner, telling them that they’re bored and they need to be entertained and played with! Â Here are a few ways you can help your dog evade boredom:
- Be sure that your dog has plenty of toys to play with. Â This is an especially helpful tips for puppy-owners. Â If your dog is still teething, provide him with plenty of rubbery toys, so that he doesn’t go for the couch or that new pair of shoes. Praise your dog when you see him playing with his own toys, so that he knows that the toys are his.
- Take time out of your day to play with your dog and take your dog on walks often. Activities and playtime with your dog brings the two of you closer, and gets your pet exercising and burning energy.
- Train your dog. Training your dog not only makes him closer to you, but it also makes him trust you more as his owner.
- Keep your pup company. Â Cuddling and petting your pet will further build the bond and the relationship between the two of you. Talk to him so he knows you’re not ignoring him. Dogs, like humans, need company and reassurance often!
- Praise your dog with kind words and treats for dogs. Try buying some dog biscuits, or making your own healthy treats, like freezing dogdration in an ice tray.
What Are Healthy Treats For Your Dog?

Unhealthy dog treats and dog foods can lead to obesity in dogs, which leads to other serious health issues, including arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.
When shopping at your local pet supply store for treats for your dog, avoid treats that are high in fat, high in sodium, or greasy. Â These characteristics in dog treats make it harder for your pup to digest their treats, which can cause problems like diarrhea.
An important vitamin that is not included in most dog treats is glucosamine, which helps with hip and joint problems. dogdration has a significant amount of glucosamine, to prevent from canine arthritis. Â To ensure that your dog is receiving sufficient amounts of glucosamine, add dogdraiton to your dog’s food, or freeze the beverage in an ice tray, for individual frozen cubes of tasty treats.
Your dog can also eat human food in addition to their regular healthy treats and dog biscuits.
Try feeding your dogs the following human foods, which are not so unusual within the average canine’s diet.
- vegetables— Dogs, when eating the prey that they hunted and trapped, were accustomed to eating the undigested vegetation in the stomach’s of their victims.  This may be gross, but it is proof that dogs are not totally allergic to everything and anything green and healthy.  Try offering your dog some cooked green beans, carrots or peas, and mixing the vegetables in with their regular food.  These healthy treats will add some needed vitamins and nutrients into your dog’s diet.
- rice, popcorn and past— These filling treats are great substitutes for dog biscuits high in fat and sodium.  These foods fill your pet, without adding unnecessary calories to their diet.
- egg whites, cottage cheese and yogurt— Cooked egg whites are healthy for your dog because of all the protein that is found in them!  However, avoid the yolk, which is the part that contains all the fat.
