Why Pig Ears For Dogs Can Be Dangerous
Posted: 04/9/10 8:00 AM | Filed Under: Blog | 8 Comments »
According to many veterinarians and veterinary technicians, cooked pig ears that are sold and given to dogs, can be harmful to a dog’s digestive system, despite their yummy taste. Â Dogs, particularly small dogs, can not handle digesting ham (or turkey), or anything, like a pig ear, that is greasy and oily. Â These foods are just not as easily broken down in the digestive tract. Â The consumption of these greasy foods usually cause diarrhea and other digestive problems.
While most dogs love treats like pig ears, they are not particularly good judges when it comes to what is good for them and what is bad for them. Â As the owner, you must be careful about what you are feeding your dog, by omitting greasy and oily food from their diet, and augmenting their nutritious food that they consume. Â This will not only improve their digestive system (not to mention making their business easier to clean up), but these measures of eliminating these fatty products will also keep your dog fit, thin and healthy.
Another, more harmful risk involving pig ears is that dogs can easily bite off a large piece of the ear, attempt to swallow it whole, and choke. Â This is especially true for small dogs.
A healthy alternative to the harmful pig ears for dogs are our peanut butter dog treats! Â These gourmet dog treats are quickly and easily made, and our human grade ingredients are very nutritious for dogs. Â Simply fill an ice tray with a bottle of dogdration and freeze the liquid until your result are tasty frozen treats for your pups!
